Microchipping is the process of inserting a small identification chip, about the size of a piece of rice, into the area between the shoulder blades. It is a quick and easy procedure that can be done in a matter of seconds.  Nearly every rescue group and animal control agency in the area scans incoming animals to check for a microchip, as would we if someone came into our office with a found pet.

The enormous benefit of a microchip is that it cannot be lost like a collar or tag, making it a permanent method of identification. If your pet is lost or stolen, the chip registered to your name will prove the pet belongs to you and provide a way for your pet to find his or her way home again.

We strongly recommend that all pets receive a microchip regardless of whether they spend their time indoors or outdoors.  Life can be unpredictable, and the majority of lost pets are “indoor only” as stated by their owners – a quick escape, a forgotten door, or a home emergency are all reasons a pet may leave the home.

We use Save This Life microchips, which are ISO compatible, universal, and can be scanned by any microchip scanner around the world.  Additionally, they come with a durable metal tag that can be attached to the collar that has the instructions to “Google” the listed microchip number.  When the microchip number is entered into a search engine, your pet’s basic information (name, age, a photo, and any medical alerts) and a secure link to send YOU a message becomes available.  The location the message is sent from appears with the message, so you may quickly find the Good Samaritan and your pet.  Should this tag get lost, the same information can be acquired once the chip is scanned and the company called or the number searched for online.

Our Save This Life microchips have no yearly fees to keep your information current and you can add multiple contacts in case of emergency or if you utilize multiple addresses or phone numbers.
